September 16, 2009: Jacqui's second posting for this week is also a repost of some earlier material in response to the many requests we had for it... this was one of Jacqui's earliest series we posted, from December, 2005 ("Jacqui's Place" was still only a few months old!). These are her original black KAFOs that we purchased on eBay to get her a first opportunity to wear leg braces. At this point we had modified them slightly to fit better... instead of the molded one-piece plastic shell that formed the thigh cuff she now had two individual leather-covered steel cuffs at the upper and lower thigh, and we had modified a pair of blue heels to wear instead of the original black shoes that came with the braces. Rather than try to cut the shoe apart and rebuild it with an internal caliper plate, the plate was modified to fit around the heel on the underside of the shoes.

With the modifications made so far the braces fit much better than they did out of the box, but as you can see in some of the photos, there were areas that still needed some work, like the calf bands (which were still too small to prevent a little bit of pinching).

September 24, 2009: Jacqui had some cooking to do, so once the braces were on securely she got up on her crutches and headed into the kitchen. Except for when she had to go further, Jacqui laid them against the counter and used her hands to steady her as she moved back and forth...

September 25, 2009: Here's the last of this series... after getting things in the oven, Jacqui went back to the sofa for a short break until it was time to get back and finish up the cooking.
